All,
I, for some reason, cannot find any references on the class site to the exact amount of insurance required for a north american championship. Can someone point me in the right direction? All I need is the required amounts for liability and, if any, collision. Insurance companies in Florida are reluctant to write policies with the tropics in full swing.
Thanks!
Bob

Usually it's part of the notice of race, but I think the Iowa crowd missed it.

Here's the one from the 16's:
Quote:
Competitor’s Insurance
Each Competitor must show proof of Liability Insurance with a minimum coverage in the amount of $100,000.00 (USD) with valid coverage for organized racing in the Northeastern United States. Competitor’s proof of insurance and coverage must be received with the Official Entry Form. Competitors may purchase third party liability insurance onsite prior to competing in the 2006 Hobie 16 North American Championships. Anyone chartering a boat must purchase Borrowed Boat Liability Insurance at Registration.

Funny thing....
Last week I tried to get full coverage on my 14 and was turned away by many companies because of Ernesto. One quote (Boat US) was more annually than my 2004 Nacra F17! They suggested liability only because according to their books, a 1986 H14 is only worth $1270. What an industry!

I was quoted twice the premium rate of insurance for our '93 H20 on my "older" (1980's) H16's. The company writing the policy for the 20 would not even quote the 16's. When I told the first company that would quote, they were twice what I pay for a larger, newer boat, they replied "boats that old are more prone to sinking and/or breakage". :?

Try Progressive

if you're old enough to join AARP, take a look at their homeowners policy from The Hartford. I added my 20 to it for about $250 a year.

Allstate insured my 1985 H16 with no problem (in April 2006). It was about $75.00/year for liability and collison.
