Hey Bob
I noticed on your blog that you mentioned you dropped your rig way back in the light air.I was wondering how this helps in light air.Do you drop the rig back by just losening the jib halyard,or do you go down a hole in your side stays and keep the halard tension the same?

It allows you to get the jib flat and twisty like moving the jib lead way back on a boat with fore and aft jib leads. It also allows you to get the main closer to centerline (two blocked) without sheeting too tight. Then there is the peculiar thing about a 16 that it just likes rake and in light air when you don't need or want the leach tension you can rake more.

The end result is you tend to point a little higher. The down side is if it picks up a little and you're too raked you will be in trouble because you will want the leach tension and you will not be able to get it.

Thanks Bob
Makes good sence.I find in light air if you go with less rake the tendency is to sheet to hard then the boat feels real slow.

One more question about dropping the rig back.Is that with losser jib halyard tension or do you go down a hole on your side stay. With losser halyard tension I would think you would have a pretty loose rig.

I leave the shrouds where they are. With a loose leeward shroud the mast will drop a little sideways. This opens up the top of the jib a bit and that's a good thing in both very light and very windy conditions.

I set the pin holes so that the rig is tight when we are in max power mode. I don't want the twist in that condition (single trap to just a little before being over powered).
