Hello to the Hobie World.

Well, first let me say...there are a lot of topics on this Hobie Forum and so if this "thread" has already been established I apologize.

I'd like to invite anyone and everyone who has raced a Hobie 16 or Hobie 14 to Clear Lake, Iowa this September for the North American Championships. With the conclusion of the Hobie 20 N.A.C.'s in Yankton, I figure it's time to start promoting Division 7's SECOND North Americans!

We have two websites for informational review. Why 2 sites: We plan to put LOTS & LOTS & LOTS of photos and video from this 9 day event...so to help with downloading and web space we have TWO sites.

The First site is dedicated to the Old Guys, Young Guys, and Beautiful Women! Please visit: http://hobiecatdivision7.org/Hobie14NAC2008/
For all the information on the H14 & H16 Women & Youth Event.

The Second Site is dedicated to everyone in between! The Hobie 16 North American Open Championships can be viewed at:
http://hobiecatdivision7.org/Hobie16NAC2008/

Both sites are very similar and you can access lots of information such as Maps, Lodging, Schedules, NOR's, & Registration Forms. We anticipate adding an electronic form of payment through Paypal soon. But it saves us about 3% if you simply mail us a check!

Our Party Schedule is AWESOME. The Open's Schedule has been completed and includes:
1: Monday Party at the famous Odd Fellows P.M. Park. This over 100 Year Old Park has some great new features like an Outside TIKI bar and tables by the beach. With good weather, we will have a Great Iowa Casserole Dinner with deserts and salads prepared by our very own Clear Lake Yacht Club ladies....and possibly a few guys who know how to cook!

2: Wednesday Party will be right at the Regatta Site at Clear Lake's State Park. While the menu isn't completely established, you can count on some great GRILLED/SMOKED food, and Jazz Quartet, and the beauty of all those Hobie 16's line up on the beach!

3: Friday's Awards Banquet is the REAL THING. Hosted at No-Other than the Legendary SURF Ballroom. We have one of Iowa's Best Blues Bands "The Blue Band" playing from 9:00 to Midnight. The Surf holds approximately 1,500 people with nostalgic booths surrounding a very large dance floor. Competitors will be treated to an Americana Dinner with Awards & Giveaways from 5:30 to 8:00. After 8:00 we will Open the Doors to the Public and draw for our THREE EXCLUSIVE RAFFLE PRIZES!

Oh; did I say raffle? You bet. For $20 per ticket, you have the chance to win a BRAND NEW HOBIE 16 - CLEAR LAKE N.A.C. EDITION; A Brand New Hobie Kayak Mirage, and a very nice William Gardner Limited Edition Print.
We are only selling 1,000 tickets and it's FIRST BUY FIRST GET deal. Keep your eyes posted on www.fleet10.com for the first chance to buy a Raffle Ticket!

Now, just a little info. about Clear Lake. The Lake is actually an inverted saucer and it's elevation is higher than the tallest Building in neighboring Mason City. Clear Lake is not a Huge body of water...but in September the weather is typically beautiful with temps in the low 70's and mid 60's and winds from 14-18 knots. We have an exceptional Race Committee lead by Pual Ulibarri, and includes 3 additional Club Race Officers two who have worked Major National Events in other parts of the U.S. We promise to give you a Great Mid-Western Experience and we really hope you decide to pack those Cars and Stack those Trailers and head to Iowa!

Finally, I want to say Thank You to Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Hobie Cat Company. Both of which have been extremely generous! Wellmark as our Title Sponsor and the Hobie Cat Company providing giveaways, has helped our volunteer staff plan some very exciting benefits during the event for Iowa Citizens and great Party's for the Competitors while keeping our Registration costs low.

Also, don't forget, we promote Ethanol in Iowa and it tends to be some of the LOWEST priced gasoline in the Country! So fill up at an Iowa Based Casey's or Kum & Go convenience store.....IN IOWA!

Please let me know or Chris Wessels (who I see contributes frequently here) if there are any questions we can answer or help in any way!

Sincerely,

Cell Phone: 641-691-0203

Does one have to be present to win the raffle? I'm not coming, but I might consider a ticket if I don't have to be there for the drawing.

No, you can buy and not be here. We'll plaster your name and picture all over the world once the drawing is done though. We'll figure a way to help get the boat(s) out to you.
Why don't you want to come out here? It will be fun, I promise!

If you win the boat and are not present, you will have to make arrangements to either get the boat, kayak, or watercolor print, home OR you can talk with Jim Sohn about other options.

But it's up to the winner to make arrangements....of course we will be glad to help in any way!

Besides, Chris is right: You oughta just make the trip to beautiful Clear Lake and race! We have some great party's planned and the first week of September is just beautiful out here! :D

:D
Well our current registration numbers are looking pretty good considering the Economy and Fuel Prices.

We currently have 52 boats pre-registered in the Open, 32 boats pre-registered in the H14, 6 boats in the H16 Youth, and 3 boats for the H16 Women.

We could really use some more Women's teams...let's go ladies!

Anyway, the updated Registration List will be available on the Event Website this weekend. Please Note: Class Rules require both Skipper and Crew to be HCA-NA members. We have listed any numbers provided to us with your Pre-Registration. If your number is not listed either as a Skipper or Crew, please take a minute to email it to: [email protected].

We have also listed a Yes for those who have provided a copy of their Liability Insurance documentation. If you Do Not have a Yes; it would be great if you could please fax your binder to: 641-752-8628, attn: Hobie 16 or Hobie 14 N.A.C. All competitors are required to show Proof of Minimum $100K in Liability Coverage.

We really like to be as prepared as possible and by providing information on what we need, we hope you will in turn get the required information turned into us prior to arrival....it will make your registration less complicated and more enjoyable! :P

Thanks to all who are traveling to Iowa in September! We promise a GREAT Time!
:D

Watch Out, Pedro and our Friends from Division 13 have made big plans to introduce the Farmer's Daughters to PUERTO RICAN RUM!

Yep, it's all set in stone. The Wednesday night Beach Barbeque will have a Wild and Crazy Rum & Salsa Party to follow in the State Park Lodge.

Now I've talked with Josh our Park Ranger....and he's assured me that as long as the Farmer's kids are 21 and all we are teaching is salsa lessons...there shouldn't be any problems....but with Pedro and the Pirates....you just never know what may develop!

I've pulled out my old Carver 900 Watt Amp, Multi Disc Player, and College DJ Speakers to play whatever Salsa Music the Pirates bring. Now if you are more into some Country Western or Hip-Hop...you may consider bringing your own IPOD to Iowa...and we will play some of that too!

 Now I am a little embarrassed to report.....Cow Tipping is really not a sport and no-one actually does that in Iowa. So, if we catch anyone out in the fields after a few too many Rum & Soda's....well, it's not our fault if you get kicked in the teeth by our domesticated animals!

Other partys include:
Monday Night: Iowa Casserole Night at PM Park & Tiki Bar.
Friday Night: Awards Banquet at the legendary Surf Ballroom with Bob Dorr and the Blue Band following Dinner.....Ohhh and drawing for the winner of the 2008 Hobie 16 Raffle at intermission! What a blast. The concert will actually be open to the Public, but all the competitors have reserved seating.

Miller Brewing Company has signed on as one of our Awesome sponsors...so if you enjoy Miller Products we encourage you to tell the bar tenders in town that you are here for the Hobie Championships.....and show them your TATTOO....YEP; Everyone Gets One!

C ya all in Clear Lake! :)
