Post subject: | Freshwater freediving/spearfishing in the Valley? |
My hone is in Stockton on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Many freshwater reservoirs and rivers are within one hours drive. So I intend to get into shape and practice kayaking and freediving from my to-be-purchased kayak in freshwater most of the time. I was told the Dolphin Dive group out of Sacramento does some freshwater freedving. Anyone out there with such experieince / advice / ideas? I will be exploring the saltwater after I gain some experience and confidence with freshwater. Years ago I did scuba all over the NorCal coast and a few ab divies. Thanks. |

Fresh water around here is too murky to dive. Lake Parris, the closest, has banned diving. A few underwater parks here in S Cal but I think Catalina is the best. You can get you yak ferried there. This summer I plan to have my Adventure ferried to the Channel Islands for a few days of camping, fishing, freediving, and other trouble I can get into. If I can get Hobie to let me test a 16’ cat for a few days maybe I could ferry myself on a cat, that would be cool. The best freediving I have done was Hawaii. |

Post subject: | Local freshwaterwaters clearer, Catalina one of my targets |
Fortunately several of our local reservoirs and rivers are or get pretty clear, especially later in the summer and fall. I get to SoCal several times ayear and have a buddy with a power boat that makes Catalina Island a natural target. We went over once and plan to return to fish and freedive. Kayaking Catalina looks like a winner. |
