Yes, the boom does help keep sail shape in very light breezes no matter what point of sail. A bungee between the boom vang and the bottom of the leeward mast brace is also helpful in stabilizing the sail in situations with light wind and boat chop.

So my first bravo sailing day was all about blowing me over. Today was looking great... until I actually made it out there. Wind died. Mostly. Just some incidental stuff due to temp inversions. Sail was flopping about as it would be. Had me thinking the boom could be quite nice in these situations. Ive read about the downwind advantages. But may also be the difference between actually keeping sail shape and moving a bit on calmer days or just swatting flys. Anyone have any feedback on the boom in very very very light breezes? |
