As the title says...what modifications have you made to your Bravo? Pics would be great!

I added a custom wind vane (see picts) http://www.thebeachcats.com/index.php?module=pictures&g2_itemId=64681 It snaps on the the vertical mast support post, works great

Very nice idea...I've been thinking of adding a wind indicator to the Bravo...guess I've been spoiled over the years and now depend on it...also...it's a great teaching aid for the kids.

Where can I get one?

I use a Davis Black Max (used on sunfish & lasers). It is super quick to put on and to take off. Here is a link to see what it looks like. Shop around on the net for better prices. I chose this link because of the pictures.

Did you have to modify the wind indicator to make it fit? Where did you attach it? Vertical support?

Interesting..... might be helpful as an aid for my son..... Can you see it clearly? According to the manual, the mast support option requires a mast with a diameter between 1-1/2" and 2-1/2". The vertical support is certainly less than this.... The unit can be optionally mounted on the boom as well, but I would assume that this would be more prone to damage?

The manual is located at http://www.davisnet.com/product_documen ... ax_Ins.pdf

What I did was cut a piece of neoprene (from an old wet suit) to the shape of the mounting base of the Davis and glued it to the mounting base to compensate for the smaller circumference of the vertical support. The shock cord was able to lock it in perfectly. I have been very pleased with it. I can see it clearly. I don't think a boom mounting would be better.

It will be well worth it.

I've purchased a "Black Max" - for an interim solution, I simply wrapped black electrical tape around the vertical piece to slightly enlarge the circumference. I first tried some other materials but they were too slippery and the vane was relatively free to spin around.

Thanks for the tips!

Hey bdg, how is the Black Max working out for you? Was it worth it?

I used a piece of pipe insulation from Home Depot similar to those pool noodles, works great and it is removable.
It is also "patent pending" :D

darter159,

It is a great little boat toy and for $25 I simply can't go wrong!

I've been out a few times since it was purchased and it has been helpful. Most people would argue that any decent sailor knows the direction of the wind without such tools, but for the minimal cost and very short set-up, I am certainly happy with the purchase. I still have electrical tape wrapped around the vertical support - quick, easy, economical and not permanent!

Thanks to the group for suggesting the vane!

[quote="bdg"]darter159,

I sail occasionally on a lake and am thankful I have it. There are times the wind shifts 20-30 degrees due to the wind coming down over the land formation or the trees. The wind indicator informs me seconds before the wind shifts and I am hiked out and would have almost fallen backwards if I wasn't forewarned. Glad you like it.
