I have just sold my old sailboats and am getting ready to buy new. I was considering a Wave and a Laser. I like the monohull excitement, ride, portability, pointing ability and size of a Laser, but the speed, hull durability (drag her up on the beach) and ability to take passengers of the Wave. Have I found the best of both worlds in a Bravo (minus the pointing ability)? Based on what I've read in these posts, it seems the Bravo can handle two full-size adults better than a Laser could (though one is optimal on both boats). Sound right? My second question is how the Bravo handles upwind sailing in a moderate chop. I'm not talking hurricane strength but a good 15-20 knot summer afternoon blow on the Peconic Bays. I know my Sunfish can handle it -- leaping over the waves (with lots of spray, of course, and not pointing terribly well either), ducking her bow a bit but not submerging. Does the lower pontoon of the Bravo "catch" in choppy waves going upwind, or bounce over/through as I'm hoping? Your help is appreciated. |

Will handle chop WAY better than a Sunfish. You will like it. |

Just had the Bravo on Barneget Bay in 10-20 knots and 1 to 2 ft chop with power boat wake added and it handled great, better than a Sunfish would have. i had my GPs and Avg. 8-10 knots on the reaches and 4.5-5.5 upwind. |
