I purchased a older (pre EZ loc) Bravo a few months ago and have been sailing the socks off it since. I've had a couple of issues lately, and am hoping for some advice.
1) I broke the mainsheet/block cable. Clearly I am not the only one, and I am wondering if this is chronic to the point that I should keep a spare cable in the boat. It this a once-every-10000 hours event or a once-every-100 hours event?
2) I have installed a new mainsheet/block cable, but have not been able to work out the set up with the nuts where the cable mounts into the block in a totally satisfactory way. The new cable came with two low profile nylocs on it with they nylon portion of the nuts pointed towards each other, but the old cable had a low profile on the top with the nylon part down and a regular profile nyloc on the bottom with the nylon part also pointed down. I could not really get either of these setups to work out with the new cable and finally ended up with a non locking low profle nut on the top and a regular profile nyloc on the bottom with the nylon section down. This kinda worked out but I still dont have full engagement of the nylon section so I am not really convinced the nut is not going to work loose at some point. So my questions here are: a) is there a recommended configuration of these nuts that will work and not back out? b) is there a good way to tighten these nuts? (Pretty tough trying to get any tool in there), c) can loctite be used around the plastic of the block? Not sure what the plastic is but I have experience with loctite destroying ABS and PC, so I am concerned.
3) The other day the plastic bushing on the upper leg of my rudder where it pivots fell out. I purchased a new bushing but it wont stay in the hole...falls right out. The bushing that did not previously fall out is in there very tightly, but the new one is loose. Is there a recommended way to secure these bushings? I wrapped a little teflon tape around the barrel of the bushing and that seems be be holding it in the hole for the moment, but I would like a better solution. If the bushings were ABS I could glue in place, but I am guessing it is delrin or nylon in which case glue wont work. Any thoughts?

So, just to follow up.....Putting the large nyloc on the bottom did not work well enough. I could see that the nyloc section was not 100% engaged, but thought it might be enough. After about an hour of sailing it came apart. So now I am back to the low profile nyloc. Don't like it because it only has about 1.5 thread of metal, which does not seem like much, but it is the best I can do. Also I noticed the block is starting to crack around the rivit that main sheet ties to. Getting kinda discouraging.

Another follow-up: putting the two low profile nylocs on either side of the block with the nylon section pointing towards the block seems to hold well. 3 or 4 hours of sailing last weekend and no movement or issues. Kinda scary given the 1.5 thread thing, but data shows it is working so far.

Now, does anybody know the correct knot for holding the mainsheet to the block? I took a guess and it came apart on me.
