Hi! I'm just 14 years old and not sure if the Hobie Bravo is a good boat for me. I am just a beginner sailor White level and want to buy a new boat. Not sure whether the Bravo or wave is better. Thanks in advance!!! |

Both are great boats for you. The Bravo is perhaps a bit lower maintenance, because it has a few less pieces and parts. It's also probably a bit cheaper to buy. The Wave is going to be a bit wider, and faster. It will also take a few more minutes to assemble. One thing that the Bravo has that the Wave doesn't is the ability to furl the sail. Pulling a single line will wrap the sail around the mast, and in seconds you can go from full sail to no sail. If it get's really windy, or if the gusts are really strong, and you're coming in to a tough dock, or launch site, that can be a really handy feature. I don't know how much you weigh, but the Wave might be a little harder to right solo, but if you plan on keeping the boat for a number of years, that's probably only an issue for the next year or so. Either way, I wouldn't think that a Wave would too difficult to right, just a bit more difficult. Finally, the Bravo is really only a 2 person boat at best. It's the most fun with a single sailor. The Wave will allow you to take twice as much weight (800 lbs, vs. 400 lbs) so if you plan on taking people with you on a regular basis, that's something to consider. Both are pretty indestructible, and both are going to be fun to sail. |
