Post subject:  Mast step cut?

I recently replaced the broken-when-I-got-it furler strap on my Bravo. It is really hard to clip in; I need to lean into the mast to make the connection.

I was wondering if the mast isn't sitting high enough in the frame, it was in a wreck of some sort before I bought it. I took the mast ball off, and it looks like the post has been sawed off, and there is not a washer in sight. The post is 1-1/8" from the top of the base to the top of the post. Is this proper, or should I be looking to replace it?

I'm no expert and I'm not at home to look at my own at the moment but it looks rough cut to me as well . Even a mm cut off or so would probably impact the perfect fit of the mast into the a-frame.

A washer may help to keep the ball from threading down too far but since it is such a small, easy to replace part (and I'm assuming not tooo expensive) why not just replace it to get it out of your mind.
