When racing my Bravo if I sheet in too far, the boom will pull right off the mast. The mainsheet block is farther aft than the boom attachment point, making it clear why this is happening. I stumbled on this setup today from http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/37726 This may be a little permanent for me =) A buddy who had the same trouble on my Bravo thinks we should experiment with rigging a traveler through the rear scupper holes. Anyone else experimented with a traveler, or different mainsheet attachment? Yes, I know its not a racing machine, but I love racing it all the same. |

On my kids' Bravo, I added a strap that goes around the mast which holds the boom in place. In France at a sailing school, they have unique setup for the mainsheet. I'll see if I can dig up the video of the boats. |

Found them. The system they use may prevent the boom from jumping out of it's connection. Pt.1 http://youtu.be/nF3EtVO1wSE Pt.2 http://youtu.be/LvTXRCVIm_M |

Nothing unusual in the video that I can see. The boom vang and sail outhaul both push and pull the boom into the mast. Perhaps you have not been using the vang? |

In pt2, at 0:40 it looks like there is a block on the end of the boom. The main is tied to the block, down to the tiller block, back up, then forward. I think, At 0:43 - on a different boat - you can see the line coming forward to a block attached to the vang attachment, and down to who knows what. In pt1 at 0:45+ you can see the same setup in the background. I haven't yet made sense of it. I had the vang cranked down as hard as I could, it being loose was my first thought as well. I'll test it on shore tomorrow. |
