Sounds like ice/water damage in the tubes in cold weather
Check the posts on protection when you get repairs finished
I have always thought a SS or thin wall Alumnuiun pipe tube would work

Any recommendation for the best port hole cover to use?

Thanks

I had ice damage in one of my wing pockets a few years back. I carved a hole in the hull on the inside near the pocket, repaired the pocket and replaced the hole that I had carved in the hull. My theory was that by going into the hull on the inside the repaired area wouldn't be too conspicuous if the patch job was less than perfect. I think it was a pretty good solution.

I'm not sure everybody understands the way that hull pocket was put together. At the bottom of the pocket (wing tube thing) there is a hollow fiberglass platform about the size of a coffee can attached to the bottom of the hull. On my boat, water that entered the tube (which is unavoidable when sailing) entered a crack in the bottom of the tube and flowed into the coffee can thing. The water in the coffee can froze and burst outward through the bottom of the hull. When I carved through the hull about a quart of water poured out of the can area. After I fixed everything up I drilled a hole into the coffee can thing facing aft so that any water that gets in there has a way to get out.

Ok Steve, you shamed me into it
Launched "Esperanza" 21SC Lite (sans console & outboard) 1030 from my beach at El Jardin (north Seabrook, TX)
zig & zag upwind across Houston Ship Channel dodging tankers and container ships
She ran beautiful .. single and double trapeze off wingseats
rounded up to tour inside Redfish Reef (popular overnite anchorage)
continued zig & zag upwind to Crystal Beach (Bolivar Peninsula across from Galveston)
and then over to Texas City Dike
rest on beach 1 hr .. actually, assist in rigging of Hobie 16
ran beam & broad reach zig & zag to Tx City, across Galveston Bay to Ship Channel, over to Dickenson, again to Ship Channel, long run to Kemah, last to Pine Gully
incredible power in her sails .. key was barber-haul system (not sure how to attach with console in place) and mast rotation 'wishbone' (arm)!
end with short downwind leg to El Jardin .. hit beach 1800
crow's flight 55 miles ... gps track 80 miles
baptized her twice .. righting pole works good .. i need to secure it better
yeah, your SE might be fast .. er .. captains 'mano-a-mano'
"Esperanza" needs rudders replaced with EPO2 Hobies 8)
Great Day on Hobie 21 "SC"
am worn out and going to bed :)
thanks!
