Post subject:  Recommended shaft length for auxiliary motor

Have recently acquired a (new to me) 21 sc. Since beach launching has become impractical in my part of the world, I must adapt the boat to crowded ramp/ marina launching with a motor. Have a Cheeta Bracket, intend to install a Torqeedo 1003 electric motor. This model is light, fluid free, and breaks down, so it can be removed when it is not in use, but I would prefer not to be forced at all times to do so.

Most folks have recommended "long shaft" motor. Problem is "long shaft" is a nominal term without a standard exact measurement. My power boat has a "long shaft" Merc 115 of 25". My "long shaft" Yamaha 9.9 is 30". Torqeedo comes in a "short shaft" of 23" and a "long shaft" version of 28".

Question for those with related experience is, will the long shaft Torqeedo, at 28", on the Cheetah bracket, be practical? With a loaded boat, will the prop be well clear of the water when the bracket and motor are both raised?

Thanks for input,
Ben

Short shaft. The boat is low to the water and using a Cheata bracket... they recommend short as well. The long shaft can cause damage to the bracket due to the longer lever arm of the thrust on the end of a longer shaft.
