Hey guys, Someone I know is selling a 21SC with an outboard engine bracket and a small outboard engine, new sails and in pretty good shape but I'm told that each time the owner uses it the top of the sail slips out of the mast, making reefing or just bringing down the sail a problem. Since the sails are new I suspect the mast has a problem, is this a common thing with the SC? |

It was common - mistake in rigging where the sail isn't fully hoisted thus allowing the sail to pull out under load. There is a 3:1 halyard system that needs to be really tight before you downhaul the sail - now that it has pulled out the bolt rope is flatted and will need to be beefed back up - a simple repair at a sail loft - I wouldn't let it keep me from buying it. |

Also make sure that you have a good static halyard. My sail was pulling out because I couldn't get the sail hoisted high enough to stay in the aluminum track. I replaced my old halyard with amsteel, and haven't had a problem since. |
