The best way I have found to protect the wing holes from ice damage is to use large mason jar lids siliconed on top of the holes. The lids have a rubber gasket and a small bead of silicone is placed. I put a piece of pipe insulation into holes as a fail safe. This is a fast and not to messy to clean up.

If water does get in hole when it freezes the pipe insulation will absorb the pressure and stop any damage to the fiberglass.....
