Has anyone tried to balance the mast head float? I've noticed when raising the mast the Hobie Bob is tail heavy. It points straight up instead of pinwheeling like if it were balanced.

Another thing I've noticed is that upwind in strong and light wind the angle of the Hobie Bob relative to the boat center line is less than than that of the bridal fly. The reverse should be the case because the wind is stronger at the top of the mast compared to the deck of the boat.

Generally, you don't want the Bob to be perfectly balanced so it'll have less drag and always point into apparent wind. They aren't exactly wind instruments, so don't expect that to be 100% accurate. Yeah, I noticed mine doesn't match the tape on my bridle weeks either but I don't worry about it...

I put a Bob on my Hobie 20. Many times I sail with inexperience crew and if we go over, it takes all the drama out of a capsize. I race in a mixed fleet and now that I'm starting to win starts it's frustrating to be slightly behind at the first cross only to fall further behind downwind. On the trapeze I can hold or gain positions. Hence, I'm starting to think the Bob drag is significant and if it were balanced that would help me go a little faster? I'm thinking about shaving 1/16" off the top of the fin
