Post subject:  hobie i12s paddle length?

I bought an i12s at a local kayak shop, but they'd sold or lost the 4 piece paddle that comes with it. They gave me a hobie 2 piece paddle instead. Padding the i12s seems really difficult - like the paddle isn't long enough - I find I have to reach for the water. What length is included with/recommended for the i12s? 240cm? I want to try to get the shop to trade it out with a correctly sized paddle, if possible.

Thanks in advance

The 4 piece paddle is the same length. Hopefully you will only use the paddle for shallow water and tight turning situations. Inflatables don't paddle well regardless of the paddle length. That is why the MirageDrive is such a great feature!

What length is the 4-piece paddle? 230cm?

230 cm is the standard length paddle. 2 pc and 4 pc.

I think a longer paddle would help quite a bit. Has anybody tried a longer paddle?

I just purchased a Hobie i12s and took it out for first time yesterday. So far I am very pleased with it except for the paddle length which is much too short for the beam of this boat and allows water to constantly drip into the boat.I think it paddles tolerably well even with the short paddle except for the constant drip and would be a lot better if the paddle shaft was longer. There are many instances where one could use a paddle to good effect. Any chance that Hobie offers a longer shaft or must I try to make one ?

As far as I can tell, Hobie only offers 230cm paddles.

I'm considering getting a 240cm aquabound stingray - thinking a 250 or 245 is too long..

My other kayak is a Bic Yakka 120, 30" wide - my 230cm paddles seems to work great with that. The i12s is 35" wide, 12.7 cm wider than the yakka.. I'm trying to figure out if an extra 10cm is enough.. though it is certainly needed.

I'm not sure but that the inflated floor changes your position in the i12 and adds to paddle length.I'm guessing that 245 cm will probably fit . Individual paddling style, height etc are also factors oc. Taping some extensions on the paddles as measuring guides ,next time out might help?

The local shops only had a 240cm, but that works - and makes a world of difference.

I recommend Hobie pair the i12s with a longer paddle, the 230 just doesn't quite work (and I'm an average sized guy)
