What experience have you had shipping an inflatable (I have the i12) by air? I find it hard to believe that the bag is sufficient protection. Is there a hard shell bag or a cardboard box that works? Harold |

Our engineers have traveled east from the west coast and to resorts in Mexico with them in the rolling bags. Airlines tend to damage luggage, so I would be a bit concerned too. The original shipping boxes could be used. They are pretty tough. I know of no hard case specified for them. |

I took y 112i over to spain fro the uk. I covererd the bag with a bue heavy duty tarpauin sheet. I had no damage to report but may have been lucky. What about heavy duty bubble wrap. ps it only cost £25.00 to ship it over so i was happy with that |

A heavy-duty tarp is an interesting idea. That might work. I'm not sure about bubble wrap. If it pops in transit people might get scared. Unfortunately the store from which I bought the kayak is out of business. Maybe I can find another place nearby that sells them and get a box from them. Thanks for the ideas. Harold |

the large travel crate we have for our dog looks like just the right size for the i9 or i12. If i wanted to travel w/my i9 or i12, i might try it on for size. a simple mod replacing the clamshell bolts w/quick diconnects would be in order. |

I work for FedEx and have an i12. This is a tough question because other people (baggage and package handlers) don't care about your boat as much as you do. The two areas most likely to sustain damage are the handles and abrasions on your bag. Option 1: The blue tarp is a great idea and use a lot of duck tape or "Gorilla Tape". I would construct some handles with rope all of the way around for support (2 or 4) opposing handles. Option 2: Buy an extra and "sacrificial bag" and put it over the first one. This bag would take the brunt of the punishment and provide a double bagging effect. |
