Hi there,

After having used my i14T extensively for 2 years one thing I find difficult is pulling the boat, packed in the bag, for any distance. The wheels are too small for the weight and size of the bag/boat, hence even when well packed, the bag tends to drag a bit on the ground. It is also awkward to maneuver. I have thought of bringing a folding dolly with me and loading the bag on the dolly. I have also wondered if there is some way to use the plug-in kayak cart wheels (which I own) to pull the bag or if an alternative folding kayak cart (which I would have to buy) might work to help transport both the folded and the inflated kayak. Was anyone come up with solutions?

What works will depend on whether the cart has to come with you in the boat, or if you have a safe place (car or other) to leave it when you get on the water. If the former, Klepper "Foldy" cart is possible but expensive:

Thank you everyone for your posts & good ideas.

I am considering the C-Tug (rugged, fairly light, easy to transport, has a large 'seat'/cradle area), which I am imagine that I could strap to the bag (with the kayak is folded inside it) for transport AND also use it as a second kayak cart when the i14T is inflated. It might be useful for those terrains where the carts for the inflatables don't do very well, like sand?

Anyone use the C-Tug for these kind of uses? Any thoughts?

I have a C-tug, and I did once consider using it to transport a packed boat this way. (I have a small inflatable, not a Hobie.) But it's not easy to attach the bag to the C-tug securely enough. I was handicapped by using a big dry-bag. (The idea being, bag to carry boat etc to the water, by bus or train, then use the bag on the boat for shore clothes etc.) The dry-bag is quite slippery, and has no convenient dees to strap on to.

If your boat bag is not a dry-bag, then you could sew dees or webbing loops to it. This could give you something more reliable than just friction, to keep your C-tug straps in place.

If you do get the C Tug consider the new puncture free wheels. I use them on my Outback and they are good. I am noticing that the rubber around the rim is starting to fray, but one of my launch spots requires pulling the kayak over a very rocky beach and the wheels are pretty cheap to replace.

I am also shamelessly promoting a New Zealand product :wink:
