Is there a guide anywhere here to setting up the rudder properly?

I've just bought a used i12s. I haven't had it on the water yet, I've got it up on a stand at home, checking everything out. The "twist'n'stow" feature seems to work perfectly well, but I'm not so sure about the steering setup. The i12s manual appears to show that when the tab on the disk handle is forward, the rudder is straight, and that seems okay for my boat. However, I can turn the disk to the left about 90 degrees, with a strong corresponding left turn on the rudder blade. I can only turn the disk to the right about 45 degrees, with much less right turn on the rudder blade.

So if I've made that clear, you'll see that I could turn left quite strongly, but any attempt at a right turn will be more feeble. How do I fix this?

I downloaded the twist'n'stow repair manual, but that's all illustrated with rigid boats. I don't know how applicable it is to the inflatable with different handle and cable tracks.

Need to reset the ties to the rudder. Untie both left and right pulls. Then move the rudder handle to the direction you need to correct the turn. Then make sure the rudder is in the right position. Now retie both for the adjustment you need. should corrrect the problem. If you move the handle the wrong direction then start over and move the other direction from the first move.

Hopes this helps. Good Luck.

Thanks, Thinwater. That sounds sensible. But as this is my first Hobie (and for that matter, my first kayak with a rudder) I'm glad to have a bit of reassurance before I start undoing things.

one last thought before you start. Mark the handle location on the yak before you move it. Mark the left and right strings pulls before you untie. Then if you don't like the adjustment you could put it all back the same way to begin with? Does this make sense? Good Luck
