My wife is a lefty, and said she would prefer the mainsheet and furling line be lined up with her strong arm. I thought about handling my boat with my "wrong" hand for a second, and agreed to modify her boat.

Let us know how it works...looks tricky now though since the steering in on the left too - (if she has two left hands she'll have no problems! )

:-)

Well, we finally got out to try the lefty Island yesterday evening. She likes it! I mentioned your comment, Jbernier, and she says that since she often lacked the strength to sheet in with her right hand, her left had to go over to help anyway. With the sheet in her strong hand, she can sheet one handed and get right back to the tiller.

One problem I should have anticipated: the little hook on the sail is on the inside now, with the sail wrapped "backwards." I moved the knot in the little blue line all the way out to the end, and just wrapped it around and stuffed the knot through the taut bowline, and it stays.

You could have just moved the sheet over...and left the furler function on the right...its not as hard to do as the sheeting is. - might work to have one feature on the left / the other on the right...my thoughts anyway.

Best of luck with your Island!
