 i was thinking about taking the amas of the adventure and buying four wheels the size of small bike tires and going to an old airstrip and putting up the sail the back to wheels would be stationary and the front two would swivel 360 degrees, where the rudder goes i would make an attachment with two other wheels that would move with the rudder control. i would sail on land, do u think it would work? would i have to reinforce the bars that hold the amas? aprreciate all input im only 15 so rescources may be limited, unless my parents want to help?

Post subject:  SAILING ON ICE

Strange, I have been thinking of the same thing, but rather put ice skates under the amas and sail on frozen lakes in the winter.

AI people are craaaazy people, pushing the limits, and I am so glad I met so many of them in this forum.
Any one that has winter-sailed on ice?

ya we actually own a ice rig, its my dads dont know the make i know its from 1994, the year i was born, fasssssttttt! i asked him about it but the two front blades would have to rotate, ive never seen a 4 blade ice rig, same for land sailor, they all have thre wheel like a backwards trike. hobie should produce that so the AI can pedal paddle sail on ice water and land, maybe pedal on land too with attachment on the drive wouldnt be that hard alresdy has a sproket and chain. IM DREAMING=)!!!

Three wheels/blades like a backwards trike? Cosybike can help you there!! Although I think the Blocarts people have it sussed already.

I would think there would be way too much stress placed on the pins that connect the bars.
Better off sitting the boat minus the akas and amas on an independent 4 wheel set up and have the steering column extend up through the Mirage slot.

I dont think you will ne able to use the Amas setup. The Hobie is designed to have the bulk of the weight being carried by the hull in the centre, with the Amas just assisting for stability. If you took it out of water, the hull would still need to carry the weight and the Amas in an assisting role. So you would need to have wheels on the hull as well as the Amas. The end result would be as AIedal suggested, a chassis with the AI on top. Might as well dispense with the AI and just use the sail.

wheels would be easy to put on just drill holes near the collar that houses the bungie that holds the amas on take a nut, washer, and long bolt put through the pipe and secrue wheel with nut, back wheels stationart front swivel like shopping cart wheels, then if i drilled the holes precisley so the wheels were higher than where the amas were it would leave the kayak very close to the ground i could secure shopping cart wheels all along the center of the kayak which is quite long need about 1 wheel per foot, 16 wheels(very small) and they would be barely visable as it would ride so low!what about that

It would only work on a very flat surface, anything even slightly bumpy will exert all sorts of stress to the points where the wheels are attached. Can't see it is worth involving anything from the AI other than the sail.

ive decided to do this when my ai is on its last leg which will be a while, its the best money i ever spent, my friends use money on used car, and give me crap about it but there just jealous=)!!! ID rather spend 4000 on the ai than on a car

Your best route if you want to use the AI would be to build a lightweight frame that would support the hull and could attach with pins where the amas attach. Then fit it out with land/sand Yacht wheels etc. It would then be a workable project that would not destroy the AI and would be a bit of fun. I wouldn't use the amas or arms, there is too much slack in it all.
You could make it a 3 wheeler and run the steering mechanism into the cockpit through the Mirage drive slot.

That would be a fun project and not destroy the AI in the process.

Wouldnt shopping cart wheels be too small for any kind of speed?

they would be along the ridge( dont know what its called) along the bottom just for support on the kayak 16 0f them 1 every 16 feet and i could double up some at the widest point in the middle, the wheels on amas would provide most of the thrust and traction.
