Ok Hobie, I have seen the vidio's of A.I.'s with spray skirts. They really cut the spray ! I want some for my Tandem that is currently on order for spring, so how about getting busy and offering them ... I will have some made up if you dont, but if you do I will order your's.
If anyone else wants these speak up. Let them know there is interest in these and maybe it will happen.

I'd buy some. I've made some as per Bob's design and they work great. I'm sure the Hobie ones would last longer though.

If you put a piece of slightly harder plastic where the aka SS pin rubs, they should last many years.

I've used plastic cut from a milk jug, or better yet, a piece cut from a Flexible Cutting Board http://www.amazon.com/SiliconeZone-15-Inch-Non-Skid-Flexible-Cutting/dp/B00009PGUG.

Round the corners and poke or drill a small hole in 4 corners to attach with the smallest wire-tie you can find.

Besides this area, I've experienced no other wear problems.

I am new to the Hobie experience, just left a deposit on an AI Tandem, been told it should be to the eastcoast by the end of April.

I haven't sailed in 20 yrs, the 2nd wife didn't take well to it on the Chesapeake Bay, she had this thing about turning green while the boat was well heeled over, so the AI is to fill my void.

I like the idea of the spray sheilds, does someone other than Hobie sell these or sell plans to make your own, etc?

Welcome to the forum!
Kayaking Bob (reconlon) came up with the most popular plans. They can be found here-
https://sites.google.com/site/kayakingbob/Home/spray-skirts

There are a number of posts here with people reporting great success with them. I had to buy a sewing machine to make mine.

Thanks for the links, considering the aka's on the AIT are different (attachment to the hull) than the AIS I guess I should wait until the boat arrives before having the wife make us a set.

Waiting.......................... :( :( :(

The size and layout of the TI's bow to aka area seem to be the same as the AI, so the same "skirts" should work fine. Just the mount points may need to be tweaked.

I wonder how much more spray we may see from the ama being so much larger and further forward compared to the AI. Can't wait to find out! :)

Isn't it the job of the front crewman (woman) in a 2-man, to block the waves and spray from touching the captain in the rear seat? :)

Probably is........but I will let her figure that out, mum's the word, she is a good sport, might not be after the 1st trip in the bay with a NE or NW breeze

Very nice work, your wife has skills, as do you with the install. :)

I took mine out for its first run and while it definitely helped stop me from getting smashed in the face by waves bouncing off the crossbar, i found that it tended to make the bow get stuck under waves significantly slowing me down. The skirt was not tight so maybe that may change things.
