Hi guys im new in here but I am researching to find out about womens sailing/boating clothing. We seem to struggle with finding good kit at affordable prices and ideally want goretex but prices seem so high. Anyone help? |

Welcome to the forum. I've also been looking recently for some sailing gear. I'm sure you have also been shocked by the gortex drysuit costs but I have just seen some separate jacket and pants on ebay like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT Pretty reasonable prices and I'm thinking that there may be advantages to have them as separate items rather than the one piece drysuit. The disadvantage of course would be that it wouldn't be 100% waterproof. What are your thoughts ? If you just type gor-tex into ebay there are heaps of pages. |

I got a Goretex Paclite jacket and pants from Cabela's. They were on special but even their normal prices seem quite cheap. My wife found they suited her too so I got her a set as well. Even with shipping it worked out much cheaper to buy them from Cabela's. There are some womens specials on at the moment: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... =cat601085 |

For colder weather sailing we bought salopettes (a lot like bibbed snow pants for down hill skiing). The idea is to wear the salopette under a kayaking splash jacket. We wear knee high kayak boots. The salopettes were very reasonable (~US$130) and are comfortable, facilitative of motion, waterproof and warm. The weak link is that unless you're very careful water can find a way to get over the boots. We are planning to make some neoprene puttees in an attempt to create a better seal. It would be nice to have the dry suit's guaranteed dry feet but, though I don't wish to offend other people's tastes, to my eyes, many of the dry suits we looked at, in addition to being expensive, rank among the stupidest looking garments I've ever seen. Sort of like ill fitting first season Star Trek uniforms. Climb out of your boat and people start trying to give you the vulcan greeting ... Difficult to wear one of those things and sustain your 18th century sea captain of the bounding main fantasies. Timo |
