just got my TI and its great. its very windy here,on Kauai's south side. Im having a hard time getting a good shape in my sail, think i have the batons to lose. even with my sloppy sail shape the boat rips. anyone know what the(recommended) max wind speed is for the sail and any recommendations on when to reef?

Welcome to TI sailing!

On the TI over here on Maui, I seem to be able to sail without reefing until about 18mph if no major gusts. On the AI I start reefing above 15mph. I've only been out about a dozen times on my TI so I may revise that number after a few more sails.

Welcome!

So far my wife and I haven't hit an upper end - she starts out in the front seat and as the wind strengthens she moves further and further out on the upwind trampoline, keeping the TI flat. It'll go like a scalded cat!

Aloha PD, looks like we now have another stop to make in the next inter-island Hobie sail. :D
