I thought I had better update this post.
As the weather warmed here it became more difficult to stop the pipes from slipping.
Roadrunner was correct (as usual) when he queried the pipes staying in place. Seems the tramp material would warm up and stretch and the pipe would eventually slip no matter how tight the straps were initially.
After much experimenting I can report that pool noodle works well in place of the pipe. It also has the added benefit of providing padding to the aka.

Looks good Stringy  :)
I'll have to keep that in mind - if/when I get a TI
Did you have to make any alterations to your dual AI trailer to accommodate the TI.
One of the issues I have with the TI is transporting it..Generally I would trailer it - possibly in addition to my AI. But there could be times I would rooftop it. I have seen at least one rooftopped on a sedan with racks & a T piece off the towbar. Any comments would be appreciated
Best regards

Mickey, I have the Hobie TI double trailer, and the only difference between it and the double AI trailer was the length of the cross-bars. As long as you're ok with an ama off the side of the trailer cross-bars, you should be able to fit an assembled AI & TI on the regular trailer. I hope this helps.

Thanks Bob - I appreciate your feedback.
Do you use Hobie TI cradles or some other solution?

Because I mix & match between the TI and AI's, I created a 6" (15cm) wide padded area over the front cross bar, and 24" (60cm) padded flat area from the rear cross bar forward.

As long as the front area is under the forward Mirage drive well, of each boat, it works fine. Also, if you fold the ama back on an AI, you have to put something under the hull to support it... BUT, if you fold the ama forward, no problems. :)

My TI lives on the trailer. Any AI's just are loaded for the ride.

Thanks Roadrunner. Another use for pool noodle! :)

Mickey,
At the moment I am using that little Aunger trailer I originally got for the AI's. I have put the sides back on, lengthened the drawbar to 4m and added some bracing and a couple of forward supports. This trailer is great because everything fits inside and the TI is at a comfortable height to invert. I store the TI on this. If I was to keep this trailer I would probably get the genuine Hobie cradles and carry the TI right way up and assembled.

If I am taking the AI's out as well then the TI is carried on top of my boat trailer, unassembled and upside down.

When I sell the old Oasis and 2nd AI I intend carrying the TI underneath an AI much like this. The only mod necessary would be to raise the bars the AI sits on to accomodate the deeper TI hull. I have only a narrow space in my garage and side by side will not fit.

This is why I love this forum - so much useful info and people who've already done what I'm looking at doing...

I was about to post this very question (A.I. tramps on a T.I.), but the solution is here. I was thinking of packing
out the front sleeve using PVC pipe, but the pool-noodle idea is sheer genius - Is there anything it can't be used for? :-)

You're a legend stringy!

Cheers,

Mike.

Why thanks Mingle! Yes, this forum is a great source of info for those willing to do a bit of searching. When I first joined it I spent ages reading over all the old posts and learned heaps.
This was such an old post that I'm surprised the pics are still showing. In many of the older posts the pics are gone, but the info is still good.
If you can source the square pool noodle you will find it will stay in place better.
