Paul, In his initial instructions, Dave recommended using a total of 20 ft of shock cord, thus giving approximately 10 ft to each skirt. I did exactly that, and found that it works well, but is VERY tight. As such, I expect the shock cord in one or both skirts to break after a few months use. Therefore, I recommend you try about 11 feet of shock cord in each skirt. |

If you look close at his pictures, you can see he loops it around the eyelet post in the center of the forward pockets. If it holds up, I may consider making a complete kit using similar ideas, which would require no modifications (holes) to the TI and easily removable/installable. |

Hi Bob. As a courtesy to my front seat guests, I wish to add your spray skirts to my TI. A version that would require no modifications (holes) to the TI and easily installable and removable is preferred. Any progress on such a version? Another question... Sometimes, while out on the water with our TIs, we like to drop our anchors, fold the amas in and raft with fellow TIs for lunch. Can the TI fold in with the spray skirts installed? If yes, how? Would one need to climb out on the ends of the akas to adjust/detach the skirts? If yes, can this be done even when the trampoline isn't installed? |

We don't have a kit, but am considering working on one, at least for the TI. What we currently supply is just the Sprayskirt material sewn, with twine installed to pull your line through with. Each person chooses their line and mount points, with email help when necessary. You do need to disconnect the Sprayskirt from the aka, to fold the ama in, the way I recommend installing them. I have ideas on easy disconnect to do this, but may be different with/without the trampoline. Do you fold in the ama even when you use your trampoline? If I don't get working on a kit soon enough for you, I can help you do-it-yourself through email, etc. like many others who have installed theirs. |

Then you can use a longer line to go around the eyelet post way out near the end of the aka to hold out the Sprayskirt and then back to connect to some point on the hull. When you don't use your trampoline, to fold in the ama, just unhook the line and you're ready to go. When ready to fold out the ama, grab the long line and place it back around the eyelet post and hold it while pushing the ama out, then hook it back in place. Here's an example of what I use for a quick release on my fishing AI. You won't need to add a cleat, just a loop or hook on the end of the line to hold it.

what's a "wire tie"? Could I just use stainless wire and wrap it tight? We have very very little in the way of hardware options here. I Probably won't be able to find the shrink here, and the bungee may or may not be in stock. I've already given up on sourcing shade cloth locally. Perfect opportunity for Bob to come up with a "complete kit" price for me, wouldn't you say? |
