Post subject:  where to locate my GPS

I have had a look at a number of options to place my GPS on my TI.
Issues are:
I have the family playing on the tramps (moving with the tacks)
having it close to the steering (on the left) gets in the way of my hand/arm at rest)
having it on the right side of the boat may get tangles with all the ropes.

So far I keep it in the pocket of my PFD and pull it out when I need it.

I mounted mine on the right side and have not had a problem with the lines getting fouled. I did mount it a little too close to the post that use use for the bungy that holds the ama in so it gets in the way when lauching and returning.

It's in the rear cockpit so I don't think it would get in the way of people playing on tramps.

Paul67,

Thought I share some of my perspectives so far...

I stow my handheld GPS in my PDF's left pocket and I have a fish finder/chartplotter GPS on an extension arm mounted to my rear cross member. The cross member mount could be rotated to the left so that both the front and rear occupants can view it by glancing to the side. Finding that it's very handy to have your track line and fish marks accessible at a glance than having to pull a hand held out of my PDF and pressing the view button. When rotated to the left, it doesn't seem to get in the way with a passenger on the tramp since its extension arm aligns with the rear aka.

However, my hand held is referenced more when it comes to exploring new routes with better depth/contour lines for fishing and navigating. Previously, I found the smaller display on my handheld GPS too small to mount on my crossbar so it now solely lives in my PFD pocket where I can easily access it for upclose viewing.

Aloha,

Cliffs2yak

thanks for the feed back!

I have a garmin nuvi 500 (this is a car/boat and other modes). It is good to see from a far, I have not got marine maps; however, I have got access to the boat mode :D

The big issue I have is the kids on each tramp.

I may give it a go on the back aka on my left!
