I am looking at some fishfinders/gps units, what would be a good unit for the Hobie Adventure Island that would be water proof and works well in hull transducer. Thanks

Here are some that I am looking at what do you think?

Humminbird 385ci Combo Kayak300 Series.Internal GPS

Garmin GPSMAP 421

Humminbird® 587ci HD Sonar Internal GPS Fishfinder Combo

I have been running a Humminbird 383c for 3 years now, never had an issue with it, my traducer is external mount on the rudder though. There are heaps of guys running internal mounts with no real problems though.

The 383c, I can remove the head and it will float/waterproof to 3 meters, the kayak with FF/GPS has been capsized on many occasions practicing deep-water re-entries but I do spray it (all electric contacts) with Inox before and after every trip.

If I had the chance and $$$$, I would upgrade to side scan though, a boat you have the speed etc to easily check out an area in a grid if looking for a reef etc, in a kayak its not that easy unless you can side scan it.

I scuba dive a lot and looking for reefs etc can be very time consuming.

I have a Humminbird 798 mounted on my AI. See here for pics.
Only real issue is the transducer pops up at speed. Can use a bungee to hold it down but I usually just flick it up out of the water to reduce drag.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to go with the 'bung to RAM adaptor' "balls of steal" for the extrenal transducer mount at the drain hole area on the Hobie AI.

They make a very tidy job of it Living Waters, I would probably use one myself but I have my bilge pump coming out where the bung is.
