Took the new boat out on it's maiden voyage the other day and noticed first hand the water splash up from the handle redesign that many have spoken about. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this small issue is only happening on 2010 and 2011 AI's. I know Hobie are looking at a fix, but in the meantime I found that this works a treat.

I cut a 12mm ID x 32mm OD piece of air conditioning pipe insulation rubber tubing 300 long and simply disassembled the paddle bungie, slid it on and reassembled. With the bungie then stretched up over the top of the handle, the new rubber tube fills in the gap and doesn't look too much like an eye sore. I know Hobies' fix will be a lot more professional, but quite frankly it doesn't need to be any more complicated than this.

Slaughter - good fix!
Everyone i know is using electrical insulation tape or simiar to tape up entry from under the handle. Apart from looking rather unsightly, it prevents you from being able to hang on hen conditions warrant it. :wink:

Tried your fix and can recommend it! 8) Thanks -it certainly stops that annoying splash that diverts straight into the seatwell.
As I mostly use Adventure kayak mode I need the Port paddle holder and the SB bungee for the small mast, so I added an extra bungee for the insulation tubing. A thinner bungee fits into the fitting hole alongside the original bungee OK.

The tubing can be slid back so the handle can be used

...or slid forward and jammed in to stop the splash.

The paddle and mast sit nicely on top of the tubing. Thanks again for an effective and simple solution. :)

You wouldn't say that if you saw how long it took me to do. About an hour per chuckle.

I'm just trying to get good enough to pay your daughter back. I think I remember you blaming her for the job that was done on me onetime with a multicoloured waterproof jacket. :lol:
