Me and my son have an AI each, and we would like to talk to each other when we are sailing. Preferrably with a headset. Any ideas, suggestions, experiences?

Kjell

Just buy a good cheap FMRS radio set and purchase a suitable waterproof drybag for them. Wear them around your neck, or tucked just inside your PFD.

On the water, they will work great at close range or extended line of sight.

I would buy a spare set for your friends/family on land.

Go to http://www.rei.com and search for "walkie talkie". Even if the manufacturer says they're waterproof, you'll still want to keep 'em in a soft-shell waterproof case clipped to your PFD. A lot of people simply wear 'em around their neck... it's a matter of personal choice, but that feels like a ball & chain to me.

I use the ICOM VHF radio, its very good it floats, and if it gets wet its still good on sound quality. I like to use a marine VHF just in case you get into trouble you can call on help from coast guard or near by boats.

I recommend you look in Teknikmagasinet in Täby Centre; they have a selection of Cobra walkie-talkies. Page 238 in thier catalog.

Yes... I figured we were talking about radios other than marine VHF (which isn't much good on inland lakes).

I don't know if they are still made but I use Talkabout P14S with headsets. I was able to get two OD green ones over a decade ago and they still work.

Thanks for the advice!

@Boka: Teknikmagasinets radios were not waterproof. Kjell&Co had a good one, but it was sold out.
