Nohuhu,
With the 'hooks' at the front and the clips at the back the haka fits on the crossbars (camping platform) and on the aka bars OK up to about halfway out.
I see no reason to fit them right out at the ends of the aka. It makes hiking out too hard!
BTW- It was Slaughter who came up with the speed haka. I'm much slower at developing ideas.

Slaughter,
You haven't been paying attention....again!
See Page 13.
The tube clips are from Bias Boating.
How is that heavy duty contact holding up? Others have reported corrosion issues from tape around their aka.

That would be right. I race around for a couple of hours like a chook with it's head cut off making Hakas, and then Stringy goes and takes the credit.

Bias boating hey. I'll keep it in mind for the 'upmarket' version.

I put the contact on for the Gimble Camera Mount, so it's been on for ages with no ill effects so far.

Oops. Props to Slaughter, then.

I can confirm (and document) that taping your Akas will contribute to heavier/faster corrosion. The closer to the waterline, the worse it gets.

For that reason, I'm going to try padded Hakas, and maybe add some closed cell noodle-style padding around the tubes. They're light weight and easy to remove at the end of the day.

Thanks Mates - Keep the comments coming.

i've been following this thread for a while and have been giving some thought on what route i am going to go, and last night I think i came up with a solution to hold my fat butt up without worrying about wood sagging and stuff.

aluminum ATV / loading ramps. (don't know if anyone has mentioned those, i dont recall seeing them)

they would make a great base platform to buildup.

something like these (obviously modification would need to be done to these, but theres other types as well)

Image

light weight, much thinner than a ladder, but yet strong. and have some ideas in my head for padding as well....to make it a padded bench seat. kinda like on boats.

and ramps can be found on craigslist pretty cheap.

Lessee,..

Welded alumium
69 x 15 x 4 inches ; 17 pounds
Holds hundreds of pounds
Cheap and plentiful

Fits the bill. Brilliant.

Just need to find flat ramps without those butt-gripping treads added. :o

Nohuhu, Looks like a fast weight loss program if you slid an inch or two. :o

I'm just glad nobody used the term "butt cheese".

Thrashie, the pict is fine. I was looking around for a treaded or meshed version that you could sit on directly without requiring additional surfacing or even pads.

In other words, a light, meshed aluminum "park bench" top. So far, everything I found designed for benches was far more expensive than the ramps.

My requirement in either case, is to be able to stand and walk on them.

Note: most of these ramps are arched, but some models are 70" and straight. Some fold nicely in half. Double and triple wide sections are held w simple door hinges that are machine screwed. Easy to separate.

One triple folder would provide enough material for 2 Hakas and a Raka. As cheap as $50 a Haka. Cool. Thanks.

coming from the ATV world, I'm suprised i hadn't thought of it earlier, but once it dinged in my head, to me, they are the perfect solution.

there so many types out there, curved, straight, 2/3 piece foldup, 2 seperate ones, etc etc. theres options, and i am leaning towards something like the ones i pictured above.

i envision walking/standing on them too...and heres my thought with the ones above again...instead of padding, just lay down a layer of thin wood or something like that to keep yer feet on the board without going thru the rails...the ramps gonna hold the weight, the wood is just to make it more comfy on the feet/butt.

at least right now, this all is just the vision...the reality is gonna be a whole 'nother beast.

In that case, Highland may make the perfect Haka base.

Aren't we going around in circles a bit here? The aluminium ramps weigh 16# each. If you add some plywood decking, you essentially end up with a wooden deck with an aluminium subframe which weighs about the same as a braced wooden deck, is less attractive and costs more.

Chris you have no idea how true that is!
The ladder haka was the end result of an idea I had after seeing a Repco catalogue that had half price ramps!
I went to Repco and checked them out but they were heavy and expensive -but looked like a... ladder.
