I use the extreme angle fair lead with the existing cleats. You can find them at west marine last I checked.

A swivel model would be nicer but I was waiting for other adventurers to break theirs, before I try it.

For'd or aft mounted? I normally sail from the after cockpit with the sheet rigged 2:1 through the after cleat. Looks like I could just bolt on the extreme angle fairlead to the for'd cam cleat and along with my tiller have a decent "proper" sailing setup for use on the hakas.

Adding it to the forward cleat makes the most sense. Unless you own a TI3, in which case you do both. It's not just the side angles you are improving. The Haka seating angle is much higher as well. Solo or 2 up, the XAFL makes for smoother sheeting, especially from the port Haka.

With 2 on board, your crew should be maintaining the sheets though. I say "Make 'em work or make 'em swim!"

Great...like I need a trip to West Marine. I can't get out of that place without spending at least a c-note.

Some clips demonstrating why the haka are the best sailing accessory.
In these winds the lee ama would have buried and caused drag. Getting out on the haka levels the TI and enables faster sailing:

Man- those look comfortable. Put a great big  on my face!

Very nice trim, and a pretty dry ride, considering there are no spray skirts.

Thanks Nohuhu, Slaughter and Keith.
Slaughter's mention of aircraft carrier reminded me of the other great use for haka ...carrying stuff:
Here is the gear for a weeks camping trip

and how strapping it to the haka makes packing easier:

We could even sail with all that aboard:

Yes, quite an impressive load. I have moved a lot of camping gear/supplies from the bow onto the hakas and rear storage area. It has greatly reduced diving of my AI--so much so, that diving is not an issue any more. We are starting our first camp trip of the season tomorrow--the first trip is always a bit painful. It is the "bar" by which all other trips are measure, i.e., you can always lower the bar on gear, supplies, etc., compared to that first trip. At least, I hope I can.

Hi.
I have started making some haka's roughly based on stringy v3 models.

I'm using less rungs - and I plan on using some diamond security mesh under a couple of layers of closed cell foam.

Does anyone know where you can get the aluminium mesh (preferably cheap)? I remember seeing some thrown out up the road a while back, now I'm kicking myself I didn't pick it up!

I recently needed some for a cage I built around my car fridge. I found mine in a security door on the side of the road but here we also have a scrap metal guy who picks up all the kerb side recycling. My plan was to go and see him if I didn't find any roadside.
