Post subject:  Mast Float

A forum search didn't turn up much on this subject.

Out of the hundreds of miles I've logged on my TI, only around 200 yards of that distance has been in water deep enough to turtle in. I would estimate that the average depth of all my travels to be around 6-8 feet.

I often worry about the top of the sail and/or mast getting damaged if it gets dragged across the bottom of the body of water I happen to be sailing in. After a pitchpole experience years ago with a Cat that took great effort to free the mast from the mud, I worry about the mast getting stuck in the bottom too.

There is a lot of innovative people that frequent these forums, have any of you given thought to fabricating a mast float for the Islands?

It happened to arno a couple of years ago: viewtopic.php?f=70&t=18539&p=91062&hilit=mast#p91062
That was in an AI, in surf. I don't recall anyone has reported it happening in a TI. I guess the lesson is: If you must take them in the surf, take the mast down and bungee it to the akas.
