Post subject:  THE SOGGY BOTTOM CURE !!!

I think we can all agree sitting in "a bucket of water" is not the best way to sail. I emailed NRS starting 5 years ago telling them there is a need for dry SHORTS. Got nice replies but still can't find dry shorts. So yesterday I took the matter into my own hands. Since I seldom use my nice NRS dry pants ($60 five years ago but double that now) I cut the legs off just above the knee. They are nice and baggy and go right over regular shorts. I used Wal-mart ball bungies to close them off around the thigh. Quite the fashion statement. So now I'm considering using some of the discarded leg material and vel-cro to fashion straps that will close out the water when necessary. Tried them out yesterday (without straps, just the ball bungies) and they worked good. When my shirt got wet though it wicked down my back. More R and D is needed. Higher seats will keep you from sitting in water but you"ll still be sailing with wet shorts. Ugh.

G'day DougDner;
I have to agree, although living in tropical Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, in the main the water is generally quite warm, and i feel for those poor charectors in the colder climates. I would however like to be out of the water and am considering making up a higher seat. This will not cure the WET garment problem but will keep the backside out of the 'bucket of water".
Cheers Vintagereplica
