Is it possible to bring your pontoon into the side of the yak with the tramp on? I'd like to be able to play a fish on that side.

Only if you undo the tramps rear clips.

Quite right.

As far as suffering and unintended collapse,...It's possible to do in waves if the tramps are loosely fitted and your weight is not on them (leeward Ama).

If you are riding them you may not notice a brace failure at all. But recovering the Aka brace can be very difficult while the tramps are deployed and tight. It takes intense pressure to put everything back in square.

BTW, I found out last weekend that Hakas WILL allow a collapse (at least partial) when sailing in rough conditions, provided they are not bolted on.

So to recap - collapsing the Akas with either tramps or Hakas on should only be done by mistake.

Thanks for the reply....I'll keep 1 side clean to be able to collapse the AMA and play a fish. Is that the configuration you use in Hawaii?
I'll also try to avoid the unintentional collapses! :D

We usually sail with both Hakas bungied on, not too tight. Hakas allow you to paddle, or get in and out of the boat fairly easily.

But if you are using tramps, I would say the preferred mode for fishing is one tramp out one rolled up. This makes it easier to launch/land and bring in fish on the collapsable side. Big toothy ones can be thrown on the tramps to cool their jets.

We don't usually fish from the tramps, but it is easy to sit upright on the Haka and do this.

NOHUHU--I am going to try fishing with one haka on which I have mounted my downrigger and rod holder, keeping the other side open for
playing fish. I have got lots of good ideas from your posts so thanks!
