Can someone from Hobie please provide more details on the new Hiking Stick and Trax 2-30 cart? I'd like to know what the Hiking Stick is made from and how it connects to the tiller? Is there a pic of the Trax 2-30 available? Any idea when these will show up downunder? Thanks. |

Mickey, Thanks. It looks like the Trax2. ..because that's a pic of the Trax2!  There is no pic of the new cart in the new catalogue, and I haven't been able to find one online, hence my post. It is probably very similar to the Trax2 but with longer uprights and a higher hull support bar so the 30cm wheels fit. If it's only a bit dearer (US$25) then that's very good value as a 30cm wheel here costs $100ea and a 24cm $60ea. BTW, I tested those Sidewinders on the C-Tug today. Absolutely useless with the TI in soft sand, actually even on hard wet sand! Write-up to follow but I can't recommend them. |

I'll be interested in hearing more about the Trax 2-30 availability and price in Oz. |

Thanks Steve.  So while we are waiting downunder, anyone in the US got more details on the hiking stick. It seems shrouded in mystery!  A review from Roadrunner would be great!

The hiking stick is aluminum. Overall 40" including the stud that threads into the steering handle with a 12" foam grip. The universal joint connection is a mirage cable captured in the aluminum tube by a fitting held by a rivet. The cable is covered by a fiber reinforced tubing. Makes a "tendon" connection that is flexible and strong. Simply thread into a steering handle until the tubing seats.

Thanks very much Matt. Just the details I was after. Using a drive cable is a different take on hooking it up.  I guess you have to remove the Tiller knob if you want to use the stick? |

After Matt posted the hiking stick details with the drive cable connection it got me thinking about improving my DIY stick that uses bungee slipped over the Tiller knob. I've just checked and yes the idler cable and drive chain cable ends screw nicely into the tiller. At last ...a use for the broken idler cables and drive chains I have accumulated over the years!  That's a much better idea than bungee! I have ordered the Hobie tiller from my dealer, but a second one may not be needed now! |

Found these updated pics on Sunjammers website:   I'm surprised that it looks like the 1/2" axle has been retained? That's a lot of unsupported axle with those wheels! |
