Aluminum and Carpeted Hakas by Adamek K9 Kayaking

I thought I would share my design for carpeted decks for our 2014 TI.

(6) P21007.5ML 2 x 10 x 7-6 Mill Finish Aluminum Plank ($470 w/S&H) by http://www.markstaar.com
(12) EC-210/WH Aluminum End Cap w/ Rivets by http://www.markstaar.com
(16) CL-STD/WH Clip Set with Hardware by http://www.markstaar.com
(1) 10’ x 6’ 16oz Boat Carpet – Blue ($60) by http://www.boatcarpetbuys.com
(2) Rubber/carpet mats, split to wrap the Aka Bars ($10) by Lowes.

Stainless Hardware:
SS 10 x 24-3/4” Washers, Lock Rings, Nuts, Pan Screws.
SS 10 x 24-1” Washers, Lock Rings, Nuts, Pan Screws
SS 5/16 x 5” Bolts with Washers, Nuts, and Wing Nuts

Kayak Handles – Austin Canoe & Kayak
Pad Eyes – Austin Canoe & Kayak
Cleats – Austin Canoe & Kayak

Weight of each Haka is 45#.

1. Drilled holes and bolted the 2” sides of the planks together.
2. Drilled holes and bolted ½” Aluminum Tube to the underside of the three planks.
3. Wrapped (not glued) the carpet around the deck, and bolted the ends to the returning sides of the planks.
4. Added Pad Eyes, Cleats, and Handles to sides of planks.
5. Slightly bent the end caps, in order to press fit, rubber hammer into place to hold down carpet.
6. Used ½” Aluminum Tube and Plank Hardware, carriage bolts and wingnuts to hold down on Akas.

I like the carpeted touch. I bet your dog does too! Those would make a great fishing platform. Nice.

Looking for a lightweight version as my DIY's wooden ones are 20lbs each
