The Hobie Dodger keeps you a whole lot warmer in wind & spray. It is obviously not as good as being inside a boat vs on top of one, but its a whole lot better than nothing. |

stobbo Your probably right on the warmer thing. But I don't know if the dodger could have stood up in the wind we were experiencing. Also not sure what effect the dodger "sail area" would have. I think kayaking Bob's spray shield would have held down the continuous soaking, but better clothing would have been the real key IMHO. |

Worked Bob's spray shield overtime in 6-8 swells with 15 knot winds, gusts to 20. I'm a sold satisfied customer! BTW a yaker on Oahu flipped off Kanehoe in gusty winds when rigged with tramps. I'll try to get him to start a new thread on it. |

Great report Dan and thanks for sharing the knowledge gleaned from it. I had considered running lines from the bow and stern to the eyes front and back on the Amas, not to save them if they fell off (that hadn't occurred to me), but to tension the whole set up. I thought it might have helped with the play in the joints and add some more triangulation to the arms. On reflection though I have concluded that it would stress the Amas unduly and not help much with the movement. I have made up leashes for all my bits and bobs from Bungee cord and self lock on hooks. Cheap and cheerful, but adequate for my requirements. If I was attempting your trip, I would probably have a re think on that. |
