Hi, does anyone know if this is feasible? I have a 16 foot hobie mirage adventure (fish). It has a six foot sail. I was looking into upgrading it to both a pontoon kit and the larger sail a newer mirage island has. Hobie support indicated the cost and technical parts might be prohibitive, but I wanted to check with owners. Has anyone ever done this?

I'm pretty sure the mast size is different, and so a different mast receiver would have to be cut out around the existing one. I assume also the pontoon mounts have to be attached to the top of the kayak hull.

A few folks have done this (youll have to search the internet and this forum- I have seen details on it). It is a hefty venture to add the Island mast base and involves cutting a large hole in your Adventure. Not for the faint of heart....

Adding the pontoons/AKAS is a pretty simple process.

Your probably looking at around:
$1500 sail/mast
$1000 Mast base hardware & AKAS
$1000 Amas

You should be able to get into a good used AI for well less than purchasing the parts required....
