Earlier today I was heading downwind when the wind dropped off. There was still a fair swell so I started pedalling to try to get on to waves and surf for a while. Great fun. Basically when I caught one I suddenly go from 4 knots to 7/8 knots. You can tell you've got it when, having pedalled hard, suddenly there's no pressure on the pedals. Then sit back before pedalling hard for the next one. A great way to pass the time on a down wind run except for a little quad burn towards the end. Luckily the wind picked up.

for me the BIG container ships are a couple of K north - the wash from the larger power boats that don't bother slowing down much is however excellent fun

I was trying to get some video of surfing in a reasonable swell this morning - submarine AI at times. If its any good I'll try and post it
