I'm back in Sydney on 11Apr and don't start work until 15th. Anyone up for a Sydney Harbour sailing adventure between these dates?

I sould be good to go. I'm (hopefully) getting a long weekend on that weekend. We'll see how the weather shapes up.

I'm going shipwreck hunting, anchor testing (and anything but going to work) Monday if anyone's about.

Is anyone planning on a trip out in the Sydney area on Sunday 18th April? I will be travelling through the area on my trip from Warwick (QLD) to Exmouth in Western Australia for a week of kayak fishing on Wilderness Island. I will be hoping to investigate many new places to sail the AI and to fish on my way around the southern coast of Australia and was hoping that a few of you guys maybe interested in showing me some of the interesting areas you regularly go sailing in the Sydney area.

Yep I can make it. Any preference of where you want to go? We can do a trip around the harbour if you like. Heaps of free parking on the weekend at Rose Bay.

Shaping up to be an excellent day on Sunday if there's anyone else wanting to get out on the water.

A trip around the harbour sounds good. It will be great to actually go sailing with someone else. I will let you decide on where to meet/park etc as long as I have a location I can plug into my GPS I will find you. At this stage any time will suit but I will know more tomorrow afternoon as to how early/late I will be in the vicinity of Sydney on Saturday night.

Ahhh Det, you get a gold star for commitment to your AI. :D

Here's a map of the car Park and launching ramp.
Image

And a Google maps version-
http://maps.google.com.au/?ie=UTF8&ll=-33.871876,151.264358&spn=0.006449,0.01369&z=17

Just have to note that you don't want the entry on the west side of Lyne Park. This will take you to the stink boat ramp and ferry wharf. The map on Google maps is wrong and does not show the entry in the middle of the park.

I'm planning to get there very early but I'll be around for whatever nominated time others will turn up.

Right AI's loaded ready to go. Any idea what time you'll be there Elmo?
My car's the dark grey Discovery with roof racks. I'll not be far from a big yellow Ai :D

I should be there about 8:30 - 9:00 if I don't get lost so anytime after that will suit me. I will be arriving in my Silver Pajero with a Yellow AI on the roof. If I wake up earlier I will probably get there earlier and just wait around until you arrive. If that time doesn't suit let me know what time you would prefer.

Well, I finally got back to my beloved Sydney Harbour and joined CGM and Elmo for another outstanding day sailing around Sydney.
Image

CGM and Elmo had already launched two hours earlier. Subsequent to my phone call, they had peddled back to meet me to the WSC ramp and then three papaya yellow AIs were peddling on Rose Bay at 11:15. Most of the morning had been wind free, however, now that I was here, things were bound to improve. As we peddled north towards Shark Island a southerly gradually came up and soon we were sailing, if only at 2-3 knots. At that point the initial objective was to make it out to the middle and see what the wind was doing, and if reasonable, then continue outside and on to Shelly Beach for lunch.

Image
As we progressed, the wind came up to 5-10kts from the SSE, swell was light, the sun was bright and water was warm - a perfect day for Shelly Beach, so our destination was locked in.

Good pics Det. Had a ball of a time yesterday. Don't think we could have got the weather much better. Didn't even have to tack home! Pity the coffee shop at Chowder Bay was closed. Still, kind of glad we got back when we did. The AI's still on the roofrack.

Going to sort out my diving mask and snorkle at some stage too.
I'll put some more pics up tonight.

While waiting for Det to turn up I had a chance to try out the new plastic anchor. It's didn't really like the soft mud although when I pulled it up I found a plastic bag wrapped around it. At least I clean up some rubbish in that attempt. I moved over to a sandy patch and tried again. Much better holding power there. Better than the old folding jobbie.

I've got 1m of chain. I'd have to measure the links to tell you how "heavy" it is.
Total rope length is 20m at 4mm. If I bought more I'd think about getting 30m.
