Apparently, Pelican is off the water for good after bad luck and equipment problems. So much for Karma, after rescuing two swimming sailors his rig was damaged and I don't think he ever fully recovered. Throw in some time stuck on the mud flats in florida bay and a capsize near Ft Clinch and finally a series of tire failures and lord know what else and he was finally down for the count. Pelican, despite incredibly bad luck pressed on through it all. I look forward to reading his story at a later date. One thing he did establish is that the AI is a tough little boat capable of far more than most people thought a few years ago when people first considered entering them in the race. In fact there is still an old review on the watertribe site that seriously questions the fitness of the AI for adventure racing. |
