Got out for the first sail of the year on Saturday with my wife. We sailed out of Madison, CT onto LI Sound. After promptly snagging the Mirage Drive on a submerged buoy line (which was easily fixed by popping out the drive), we had a fantastic sail! Inland it was about 80 degrees and calm, but on the shoreline it was about 68 with a nice steady 10 kt breeze. The water was cold, too! (Had to head in after an hour or so because Deb's feet were freezing- time to invest in a couple of wet suits). Had a great time, and the tramps were perfect for sailing as a couple! I did notice the boat seemed to sit a bit lower and was perhaps a bit more sluggish, but overall it was an absolute blast!!

Are you aware of a list of public boat launches/kayak put in sites for the CT coast? (You're lucky to live so close to the sound)

Timo,

CT DEP has a clickable map for launch sites here:

http://www.depdata.ct.gov/maps/boating/boatingmap.htm

and a list of towns along the sound that have launches here:

http://www.lisrc.uconn.edu/coastalaccess/

I live in Durham (very close to Middletown), so the best sailing for me will likely be the Sound or the CT River. I'm also going to explore some of the larger lakes in the area (I "poached" a sail on Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton last fall- only supposed to be open to town residents!) Where do you live?

Cheers,
John
