I look forward to your videos. Nice work. Every one is a bit more professional. Those sting rays were amazing. Is that normal to have schools like that ? It must be nice hav'n cute jellyfish you can swim with. Ours will have ya !

Glad you like them! I continue to let Cindy know her work has an appreciative audience.

I've been on the Bay since 1976 and that's the first time I've seen numbers of stingrays like that. We were both standing up on the TI so we could see them better as we glided through them. Cindy shot a lot more additional schools of them but only posted the best footage of what she collected. We figure we saw a couple hundred (or more!) stingrays in an area that was about a mile long and 12 feet deep - they were all close to the surface, moving slowly and would slowly scatter as we got close to them.

We do have sea nettles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_nettle) that will deliver a good sting, but nothing remotely close to a Portuguese Man o' War or your deadly box jellies.

Imagine my surprise when I saw this article - this 8-foot bull shark was caught in the exact same place where we were swimming on Sunday!

Nice vid yet again Mitch! Speaking of bull sharks, they're an issue in Oz as well. I think we've had almost as many injuries/deaths from bulls inshore (estuaries and rivers), as from Great Whites offshore at beaches etc.

I was talking to some of the old timers at the pub about the habits of Bull sharks, and they told me that Bulls can be found a long way up river at times. Apparently, they'll go up far enough to get to fresh water, in order to get rid of barnacles and sea lice etc, which die and drop off in the fresh water. They also told me about a number of deaths and serious injuries from attack over the decades, sometimes 30 kms up river.

Up here at Noosa the ocean seems a lot safer than the fresh water. The creek where the shark shown in this article was caught is miles inland and only about 5m wide.

This has been a timely revival of this thread given the events of the last 24hrs. I have not been able to find out if the abalone diver had a shark shield. If he didn't it is hard to imagine why a professional diver in those waters would not wear one.

If he did it is the first case of an attack on someone wearing a sharkshield
