Max. I'll definitely give you a bell next time I head down that way. $1200 for the trailer seems like a pretty good deal and worth considering. Cheap if you consider the damage the salt water is doing on the Hilux :(

p.s. Spoony's actually has a pretty good, but narrow channel. Although you don't really want more than a foot of swell on the beach otherwise it is a bit hairy.

Cheers

Yep Max, I know exactly where you are in the vid. Glad you distanced yourself from the music selection.

How did the TI handle the extra load ?

I'd guess the all up load was ~270kg, which didn't seem to bother the TI. Probably had a bit of a negative effect from the leeward tramp dragging in the water at times, as there is a fair amount of sag in them.

I had my Nephew and his mate out on the TI on Sunday. Definitely slows it down if one of them is on the leeward tramp because, as you said, it sags into the water. There was a pretty good blow happening so a lot of the time I had the two of them on the windward tramp which balanced things out nicely.

I experimented with something else as well. I have been following the thread which discusses being tethered to the kayak and the pros and cons etc. Anyway, I threw my nephew over the side  and the TI pretty much so stops dead in the water. You would certainly not be dragged very far if you were tethered to the Yak. Anyway, there are various other relevant issues discussed in that thread.

Cheers
Paul

Paul,
Did you have the tramps pulled as tight as you could get them?
It would be helpful if you could post more details of your MOB test in that thread. :)

Also like to hear more about the MOB test and how big you nephew is, wind conditions, etc ,etc....also did you ask permission from his mum to be a crash test dummy!

If not please don't ask now until you get more results!

Stringy, I had my tramps as tight as they could possibly be. Having never owned a Hobie cat, I can't compare, but I think the cat tramps are way stiffer than those for the Islands. Certainly, my tramps sag way more than I'd expected.

Max,
Your tramps looked a bit loose in the video. I thought you just hadn't tightened them enough.
Going with the obvious first -they are definitely TI tramps and not AI? (which are slightly longer)

They are definitely the TI tramps. I wonder if it's to do with my 'raked aft' aka issue? :(

Also Max where is your PFD???? Noticed it in the original vids and your pic on the forum but not in more recent vids...gone!

Beat me to it as it was the first thing I spotted, TuT TuT, no PFD.

That aside, they were hating that ride "NOT", what a blast
Have been wondering how the TI would handle two adults and two basic sets of scuba dive gear, hmmm after watching that, not bad and think it would do it fine.

 I only have 3 PDFs, and in this vid with 3 boys, Kobi was wearing mine. In my defence, we were never more that 30-50 metres from the banks of the river.

As for the previous vid, we'd driven for an hour to meet up with our friends, and I discovered that I'd forgotten my PDF. :( Again, it was in a river, quite a bit wider, but in company.

NOT my normal habit to skip the PDF... but... but...

(now ducking for cover)

It’s OK Max. You don’t have to defend your actions as far as I’m concerned. I go out without my PFD all the time. It just comes down to common sense. If I’m just pottering around in the bay, I don’t bother putting it on. ( I can hear all the do-gooders starting to fire up already ). The risk of being knocked out on the water whilst surfing is far greater, and when was the last time you saw a surfer wearing a PFD. If I’m going outside the heads or in the middle of the Lake, of course I put it on, but I don’t reckon we all need to be paranoid about it. ( I’ll get down off the soap box now ).

I agree...sometimes a pfd is really not required...if you want to take the risk.

Flat smooth water no pfd.....driving on the road.....I think the first one is less risky

We won't pick on you too badly Max!

BUT, some of my wildest adventures on my AI's and TI have happened on the calmest of forecasted days, in the safest of areas. Some days, I feel the weathermen just take a few days off without changing the forecasts.

My largest of wind waves (9') was sailing with a forecast of 4' waves (slightly lower than normal). Closest we ever came to pitchpoling an AI!

Just be safe (and legal). We would miss you...
