Hello Everybody,

Newbie here. I bought an Adventure Island 3 weeks ago and have taken it out twice.
I am wondering how to store and care for the sail if it gets wet after a trip.
Will storing it wet (salt or freshwater) cause mildew and rot?

Thanks in advance.

I don't believe the materials are subject to easy rot but there's not many things that benefit from being stored wet or damp. When I return from a trip I always at least remove the loosely rolled sail from the storage bag and allow air to get to it.

In our 80% humidity it has not been much of a problem, stored in the bag, in a cool dry place. Salt water helps preserve it a bit.

I would recommend you unfurl and dry the sail on the boat, prior to breakdown or trailering.

The sail is large, unwieldy for one person and fragile. The plastic pane does not like to be folded.

Just don't try to open it all the way at home. If you regularly handle it and roll it horizontally, you will greatly increase the chance of adding cracks, tears and dirt.

Depending on who you talk to, salt can either be a preservative or act as an abrasive medium on the sail fibres, especially one that is rolled around a mast. I rinse my sail sometimes, its always stored on the mast and is showing very little wear or growth after three years. I use my boat 1-2 times a week.
