Just to prove I did get my AI wet :D
Recent annual trip to Cape Conran and Marlo in Victoria (Australia). Had a mix of weather including gales and hail. We did get some fantastic sunny winter weather too and managed to get out on the water.

Pedalling out of The Slips to the Snowy River...

Sailing on the Snowy River off Marlo Jetty and chasing seals...

Marlo jetty and boat ramp. Do not park under the pelican perch!

Looks like a nice spot.
I had planned to do Lakes Entrance when I have the time for the trip from South Australia. Have you done that area?
Recently did Glenelg River but found the cliffs swirled the wind too much for sailing?
Cheers,
Brian

The Gippsland Lakes are pretty awesome, as I recall from my childhood. My folks used to hire motor-cruisers there for holidays, and the fishing we really good

Haven't done the Gippsland Lakes yet. On the list though. After Cape Conran & Marlo we went down to Mallacoota for a few days. Another magic place. Didn't get the AI in though. Went exploring around the area. Maybe next year.

Glad you like them. This is down at the mouth of the river. The headwaters originate on Mt Kosciuszko, Australia's highest mountain, up in the Snowy Mountains. Bit more cold white stuff up there. Well in winter there is. :D

Glad you like my back yard Cows'. Marlo is nice, Lake Tyers is great, but the Gippsland Lakes leaves them well behind in relation to beauty, size, sail ability & great venues dotted around to visit including pubs, shops & nature reserves...Pirate

Did you see The Man? You know, The Man From Snowy River? We use to ride horses down the mountains like that-called it Snowy River riding.

Well, didn't ride quite that crazy or we'd surely have killed ourselves. Love you Aussies! Special place, special people!

Yep, many of the 'stunt riders' are from these parts and I know a few that were in the film including the man that took Tom Burlinson's part and actually rode down the hill. I have seen the actual hill but interestingly they made it look steeper than it is with trick photography and by pulling trees over on an angle to make the hill look even steeper.

My sis worked on the crew for the film, and she told me that the local horsemen hired as extras were absolutely the real deal, and had the film crew in awe with their ability combined with their humility.

You got to keep in mind that those guys grew up in a saddle and all things horses just comes natural. I have had the pleasure of being on overnight rides with some of them in times past and they go places with their horses that no sane person should. And their knowledge of the high country is outstanding...Pirate
