Post subject:  Replacing Bow Hatch
I do alot of push poling in the flats when sneaking up on redfish/trout. I have found the best place to push pole is of course the bow. I figure someone has replaced the bow hatch with something that is flat and hard that you can more easily keep your balance on. Perhaps teak or something? Im not having much luck searching the forums but may be using the wrong keywords. Can anyone point me to some trial and error on this mod?

I'm surprised no one has responded to this request for info. I'm not particularly qualified, but it caught my attention. Here in S FL, most flats boats are poled from the stern, so I'm wondering why you want to pole from the bow? It seems to me that the akas/amas will interfere with poling. I would also worry that the bow hatch area may not be strong enough to hold your weight.

People have built a quarterdeck above and behind the cockpit seat which supports their weight and could serve as a poling platform. Searching this forum for author "tonystott," and keyword "quarterdeck" should turn up something. If you built a quarterdeck and had hakas to move side to side and forward as needed, that might serve as a pretty good fishing platform.

Thanks Keith, I was about to post whats with all the crickets hahaha. But yeah I guess I could just as easily stand in the back and push pole in reverse. Quarter deck may be just what Im looking for. Thanks :wink:

Keith, although highly flattered by your reference (LOL), I have not authored anything regarding quarterdecks. My fat bum stays in the front seat of my TI!

I'm not aware of any posts regarding such a mod.

Sadly, I have my TI, but I can't use it :(. On my awesome 6000km outback trip (pics to come), the incrediblt rough roads caused one leg to blow up in a humungous haematoma (fancy word for bruise), which is too painful to sit in the TI.

I am hoping it won't be too long before I can hit the water again.
