Does adding a main sheets riser significantly alter the sail's performance/physics? The back occupant is constantly fighting the sheets otherwise. If so, would a riser that allows travel horizontally help the sail efficiency, hurt it, or be the same as one tied through central eyelets? The ones that I've seen have the sheets lines funneled through eyelets, rather than allowed to travel the width of of the riser.

Mine is an H shape canted forward so the sheet can slide overhead or be easily flicked off. I also have lines out to the rear of each ama with a closed S hook in the middle to hold the sheet out when running downwind. Both help quite a bit and seem to add to speed.

Do you have (a) picture(s) to illustrate what you have? That would be very helpful. Thx!

I'd like to see a pic of that! I've been trying to find a better downwind solution than my current method of just holding the mainsheet out by hand.

Tie a line from the rear of each ama to just behind the seat. An S hook with one end closed over the line between 2 zip ties and you are done. Just put the double sheet line in the open part of the S hook and your sail is held out for easy downwind sailing. Wish I could see how to post pictures.

I just did this project. I really like the look of this one (originally done by Victor from the Hobie Fishing Team out of Austin):
